New lawyers must be presented to the court in a call and admission ceremony, although they do not need to attend that ceremony prior to issuance of their practicing certificate. Presentation to the court is required, however, before the first renewal of a certificate

Presentation to the Bar
Ceremonies formally presenting newly admitted lawyers to the court will be conducted in the fall. The local bar association will notify newly admitted lawyers and their firms of the dates and times of these ceremonies.
A hard copy Call to the Bar information package will be provided to CPLED Students attending the last Face to Face sessions in February 2018. Please note that all forms and applications are subject to change. The most recent versions are those available on the Law Society's website.
To be called to the Bar of Ontario, candidates must complete and meet all the licensing and good character requirements established by the Law Society as necessary to becoming a lawyer in this province.
All Admissions Ceremonies take place in Fredericton at the Court of Appeal.
About the Admissions Ceremony
The admission ceremony will take place in June, and at other times during the year, as required. In order to be admitted in June, students-at-law must start articles no later than June 1. Students-at-law who begin articles after June 1 will be admitted at a later ceremony. If you have not completed the term of articles by June, contact the Director of Admissions to make other arrangements.
Admission ceremonies occur throughout the year (see the complete list of admission dates). The major Bar Admission Ceremony, predominantly for articled clerks, takes place every June in Halifax. A member of the judiciary oversees these official court proceedings. Applicants have the option of making their official declarations and Oaths in three languages: English, French, or Mi’kmaq. After the ceremony, applicants sign the Roll of Lawyers, and only then are they allowed to practice law in Nova Scotia.
Court ceremony
All applicants for membership must appear in court to be admitted to the Bar. In PEI, each applicant has his or her own court ceremony, and appears in the proper dress of a barrister before a Justice of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island.
